JTBD Framework
Do you know the JTBD methodology
The JTBD (Jobs to be Done) methodology is a strategic tool that helps understand customers' needs, identify tasks they seek and the problems they are trying to solve.
• This framework focuses on understanding the conditions faced by customers and identifying the work or tasks they seek to accomplish when owning the product or obtaining the service rather than focusing on the specific products or services in general, i.e. the intention is to focus on the substance of the service rather than its form.
• This framework aims to achieve improvements in product design, services and marketing by effectively meeting customers' needs.
• The application of this framework is based on research and analysis to deeply understand customers, identify points that can be improved and provide innovative solutions that are suited to their needs.
• Using the JTBD methodology requires compiling information from users, available data, interviews and observations to better understand the context of product use and customer expectations.
• Thanks to this framework, companies can develop and market innovative products better and achieve competitive superiority by meeting customers' needs more effectively.
• This framework is in line with other methodologies such as design thinking.
• The idea of JTBD derived from the results-based innovation methodology (outcome-driven innovation - ODI), a strategic innovation process invented by Tony Ulwick in the late 1990s. As a founder and CEO of an innovation consulting firm, Ulwick realized that his most successful clients had adopted a customer-focused approach to product development. In other words, they focused on giving customers the specific results they were looking for rather than the product features they might want (or say they wanted).
